To check the imbalance of charges inside and on the surface of the bag, when manufactured, FIBC bags are always electrostatically controlled. Moving back as well as forth between the bags and rubbing against the inside surface will create static electricity. However, with different requirements in terms of material, size, and design, choosing the right FIBC bag with electrostatic protection ability is very difficult. Therefore, as a FIBC bag manufacturer, we will provide solutions to serve many industries from small to large scale.

FIBC bags include 4 different types: A, B, C and D based on electrostatic characteristics and grounding requirements. Understanding the differences between them will help customers make the right choice, not only meeting technical requirements but also ensuring safety and environmental protection.

01. TYPE A FLEXIBLE INTERMEDIATE BULK CONTAINERS (NO ELECTROSTATIC PROTECTION)

When manufactured, Type A FIBC bags do not have electrostatic protection, so customers must not use this type of bag to store or transport flammable materials or store in explosive environments.

Primary Uses for Type A FIBCs:

  • Storage and transportation of non-flammable products
  • There are no solvents or flammable gases around the bag
  • General storage & transporting needs for all industries

Do NOT use Type A FIBCs for:

  • Transporting flammable products
  • When there are solvents or flammable gases around the bag
  • In the presence of a combustible atmosphere with a low minimum ignition energy of less than 1,000mJ

02. TYPE B FIBC BULK CONTAINER BAG (SURFACE BREAKDOWN VOLTAGE OF <6KV)

Similar to type A, which is made of woven Polypropylene (PP) and other non-conductive materials, bulk bags of type B FIBC bags are combined with a lining fabric capable of radiating voltages of less than 6000 volts and prevents high-energy propagating discharges that could ignite dust-air mixtures.

Primary Uses of Type B FIBCs:

  • Transporting flammable but dry powders 
  • Where there are no solvents or flammable gases 
  • Situations where dust and ignition energies are less than 3mJ.

Do NOT use Type B FIBCs for:

  • When transporting flammable or dangerous materials in general, other than those mentioned above.

03. TYPE C FLEXIBLE INTERMEDIATE BULK CONTAINER (GROUNDED & ELECTRICALLY CONDUCTIVE)

Type C FIBC is a grounding or conductive solution, made from non-conductive PolyPropylene woven fabric interwoven with conductive fabrics sewn in a mesh pattern, also known as conductive FIBC. This model will connect the Jumbo bag to the ground through a ground connection point. Connecting the conductive fibers during charging and discharging is necessary for the safe use of Type C bags. Connection to the ground is a mandatory requirement to ensure safety during the use of type C Jumbo bags.

Primary Uses of Type C FIBCs:

  • Transporting flammable powder. The bag is safe to use when flammable solvents or gases appear around the bag.

Do NOT use Type C FIBCs for:

  • In flammable environments, the minimum ignition energy is less than 1,000mJ. 
  • If there is any resistance to the ground point. 
  • When the ground connection is unavailable or damaged.

04. TYPE D BULK CONTAINER BAGS (CROHMIQ STATIC DISSIPATIVE OR ANTISTATIC)

Type D FIBC bags are made from anti-static materials and safely disperse static electricity into the atmosphere, designed to prevent the occurrence of flammable electrical sparks, prevent the occurrence of sparks and propagates electrical discharge without a connection from the bag to ground. This is because the CROHMIQ construction eliminates the risk of ground failure, which is always present when using a conductive ground FIBC.

Primary Uses of Type D FIBCs:

  • In the presence of flammable dust and flammable gases or vapors.
  • Transporting flammable powders.

Do NOT use Type D FIBCs for:

  • When the surface of a type D jumbo bag is contaminated or covered with conductive material, such as grease or water.
